Andrei Sharonov, Dean, Skolkovo School of Business speaks at JCC...
Andrei Sharonov, Dean, Skolkovo School of Management and Former Deputy Mayor of Moscow, was a guest speaker at a JCC lunch for Swiss manufacturers that took place at Burckhardt Compression, Winterthur on February 20, 2015.
Sharonov gave an in-depth view of the Skolkovo project which is designed to be Russia’s Silicon Valley and offers state-of-the-art programs for business executives from Russia and other CIS countries. He also discussed current economic conditions in Russia. The country’s reliance on oil and gas has left it exposed to the drop in the price of oil and the consequent ruble devaluation. Sanctions have exacerbated an already vulnerable situation.
However, he sees an opportunity in this crisis, similar to that of 1998 and 2008 when business develops new sources and channels of productivity. Indeed, he emphasized the importance of diversifying Russia’s economy into non-hydro-carbons, such as consumer finance, IT and retail.
The presentation was followed by lunch and a tour of the Burckhardt Compression plant.
