JCC Roundtable on Import Substitution and Localizing Production in Russia
Import substitution was launched by the Russian government last year. The objective of this policy is “a push for domestic growth,” in a context where low oil prices, a weak ruble and geopolitical uncertainties and sanctions have driven down demand.
The Joint Chamber of Commerce Switzerland-CIS (JCC) in partnership with Switzerland Global Enterprise and the Swiss Business Hub Russia saw it as a timely occasion to examine the impact of import substitution on localizing Swiss production in Russia. This took place in the framework of an event on September 23, 2015 at the Zunfthaus zur Zimmerleuten, Zurich.
The seminar sponsored by CMS and Stupino Industrial Park, included presentations on Russian economic policy and opportunities for Swiss companies, legal implication of producing in Russia and financing channels for companies. CEOs of two Swiss companies –- FISCHER Spindle Technology and Bucher Municipal -- operating in Russia, shared their experiences with the audience. There were also representatives from Stupino Industrial Park and Kaluga Province showcasing the benefits of establishing operations in their regions.
